A Warm Welcome to the Junior Brickineers Level 1 World!
Brickineers classes are motivating and engaging and have become the weekly highlight of many youngsters! There are three levels of Brickineers Junior Classes: (1) Introduction to Robotics and Programming, (2) Advanced Builds and (3) Simple and Complex Machines. Generally each class is 5 to 6 weeks long. Participants will earn the “Junior Brickineers” designation and certificate.
Brickineers classes are separated by knowledge and not by age. Junior Levels 1 and 2 are suitable for children in Grades 2 to 4.
Classes are based on the principles of experiential learning, and it is important that children have similar arithmetic knowledge and social skills, so that they can share and build from common foundation at a pace that all can enjoy. Learners will become familiar with mechanical terminology, basic programming and troubleshooting.
Participants will learn to read the robot’s sensors and control motors using the Lego® WeDo™ visual programming language. Each learner will have use of their own computer and building station where they can play, learn and work on the robotic and programming projects by themselves. Young children co-play, and co-play is recognized as being an important first step towards team work. To facilitate team work with co-play, learners are grouped in pairs so that each child can help the other during building and programming times. It’s also nice for a learner to have someone nearby to show off to. This class is a good place to start even if your young learner has been briefly exposed to robots in school or elsewhere.
