A Warm Welcome to Zoobots Summer Camp!
Zoobots are computer controlled robots that look and act like animals! Kids in grades 1 to 5 love this camp as they build robotic animals in theme enclosures just like a real zoo. A lion in a grassland or a giraffe eating leaves off of a tall tree! Birds, hippopotami, seals – all kinds of animals. There’s even a Venus Fly Trap that acts like an animal as it eats bugs. This summer we will have new Bluetooth and remote controlled robots! No more wires! We also have new animals for children that have been to a past camp!
Every child will be working at his or her own computer workstation, following plans to build zoobots. We will first use remote controls to learn how gears and motors work, and then program a robot using LEGO Boost and its drop down visual programming language. It’s easy to use and easy to understand. This is a nice fun way to introduce young children to robotics and programming.
Campers will learn how to read the robot’s sensors and control motors. Wow! Super exciting! Each learner will have use of their own computer and building station where they can play, learn and work on the robotic and programming projects by themselves. Young children co-play, and co-play is recognized as being an important first step towards team work. To facilitate team work with co-play, learners are grouped in pairs so that each child can help the other during building and programming times. It’s also nice for a learner to have someone nearby to show off to. This camp is a good place to start coding even if your young learner has been briefly exposed to robots in school or elsewhere.
