A Warm Welcome to the Mining Centre, Summer 2018 Version!
Brickineers classes are motivating and engaging and have become the summer highlight of many youngsters!
THEME: Mining Centre Simulator
Five mornings of exciting Robotic builds with emphasis on programming – for children in Grade 3 to Grade 6.
This is a half day camp. If you wish a full day camp for your child, then please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss possibilities. We have an afternoon Stop Motion Animation Camp following this one. Full day camp registration cost will have a $30 rebate.
The camp theme is about machines that you find in and around mines, such as mine carts, cranes, excavators, diggers and lifts. Mined material will be transported by railway to be processed into who knows what? Parts for aeroplanes or beams for building? We will decide at the camp. Robot arms, cranes, excavators, trains and tilting wagons all operated by computer, or remote control, will challenge the children to build and play together to create a story that they will imagineer themselves. Some new and exciting controller parts will wow everyone!
We have new excavators that are pneumatic and electric motor controlled this year! Instead of spending hours building them, we will use the pre-built models to learn how they are used and how we can program them to be useful. We will have the aggregate processing plant again, but it has been modified to sort better than last year. This year we will have wireless bluetooth controllers besides the usual USB controllers, giving us freedom to make equipment move and simulate a real mine. Almost everyone can use MIT’s Scratch programming environment, however, those children who opt out can still control excavators using power function remote controllers.
Brickineers Campers will use Lego and Lego compatible parts, Power Functions, motors and sensors, computers and Lego WeDo programming software, Boost programming software and/or Scratch programming software. We like Boost motors because they are smart!
If your child was in the Spring Camp last year then please register again! There is always more to learn regardless of how many times they come to this enriched camp. There will also be more machinery and more emphasis on programming.
