Welcome to the LEGO Gears, Motors, Power Functions & BOOST Class for Grades 1 to 3
Brickineers classes are motivating and engaging and have become the weekly highlight of many youngsters!
In this class we introduce children to gears, motors, remote control using Power Functions controllers and finally a brief introduction to the Lego Boost Robotics system. Children will become familiar with gearing and will be able to choose gears or pulleys to accomplish their goals of moving mechanical creations. Simple and complex machine theory will be discussed in groups as we go along and only simple to understand words will be used. Finally the concept of computer control using the BOOST system will motivate children to embrace the idea that learning is fun and there is a lot more to look forward to. Simple machines are introduced in Grade 3 in Alberta, however, young children will get a feeling for the principles of machines in these robotics classes.
Each child will have access to their own computer station however very young children may be paired together to facilitate peer learning when required.
Classes are based on the principles of experiential peer learning, and it is important that children have similar arithmetic knowledge and social skills, so that they can share and build up from a common foundation at a pace that all can enjoy. This speaks to the reason why these classes do not involve children from all the elementary grades.
