Welcome to the best Robot Engineering Camp in Calgary!
Robot Engineering introduces young learners in Grades 5 to 8 to the amazing world of robotics and programming. The camp will be a measured introduction to the electronics of the robot and programming concepts. Progressively more complex tasks will be given as challenges to be met, on an individual and team basis.
Every learner will have access a complete robotics development system; the VEX IQ Superkit robot. Campers will have to bring their own laptops or tablets to the camp.
The VEX IQ Superkit is used in the class with VEXCodeIQ and the RobotC programming environment. Many of the concepts can be matched using the Lego EV3 robotic system for those who have these at home.
The VEX IQ™ Superkit has over 850 pieces including a powerful ‘brain’, 12 configurable inputs and outputs, 4 motors, colour sensor, distance sensor, gyroscope sensor, 2 touch sensors and 2 bumper sensors. There are more electronics in the VEX system than Lego, and that leads to more interesting designs. VEX Robots can be built quickly leaving time for programming, testing and competitive fun. VEX also has the largest robotics competitions in the world, and is supported by Carnegie Mellon’s online robotics program. It is the best robotic development system for education and great for home use.
Learners will add new skills and demonstrate their achievements by programming robots on specially designed competition mats.
This course will be different from previous courses in that learners must have at minimum strong Grade 5 arithmetic knowledge. Children in lower grades are encouraged to enroll in our Lego robotics classes.
